After an experience of longer than three decades in clinical practice, I can today, confidently aver that using herbal remedies to treat respiratory allergies and infections in children greatly reduces the need for antibiotics and also helps a child to get well with a minimum amount of fuss and distress.
By using therapeutic combintions of herbal remedies, I do not need to prescribe a broad-spectrum antibiotic at all and I still use oral penicillin in most cases that would need an antibiotic.
While oral penicillin suffices in older children, I use ampicillin-cloxacillin in infants and toddlers, but only when necessary.
In fact, I do not even remember when was the last time I prescribed a cephalosporin or some other 'higher' antibiotic, for a simple respiratory infection!
This applies to my non-hospitalized patients of course, and not to those who have an acute broncho-pneumonia or some other serious respiratory infection.
Allergies and infections go together, the former often being responsible for setting the stage for the latter.
It happens very often that a child who is allergic to dust or dander, starts sneezing or wheezing and then progresses to get a full-fledged upper or lower Respiratory tract infection, complete with fever and other associated morbidity.
Allergies damage the respiratory mucosa to such an extent that bacteria and viruses present in the surrounding air can invade it very easily.
Using antihistamines and other conventional medicines to protect the respiratory tract often causes more distress than it cures, because drugs can cause a variety of side-effects which could be something as simple as drowsiness to something as bad as liver damage.
Because of these problems, early in my practice, I began to search for better options to treat respiratory allergies and infections. I finally found my answer in combination herbal remedies; I tried many probable combinations, using herbs from all over the world.
Moreover, I began to use them in a format of the dilutions of Homeopathy because this assures safety, purity and efficacy.
So today I use even 'Ayurvedic herbs' in this format, with the most excellent results.
An additional advantage is that they taste like sweets, so children take them very happily indeed!
There are more than two hundred herbs that I make my remedies from, today. This huge cache of herbs allows me to customise my formula for each individual child according to his needs (I often assess a child's needs based on both, his Prakriti as well as the nature of his illness).
And I give an antibiotic only whe necessary.
I have developed several protocols of my own, some with and some without, herbal steroids.
Herbal steroids come in the form of natural herbs like Aloe, but even these are rarely necessary and I use them only in cases of lower respiratory tract affections.
In any case, naturally-occurring steroids (which are called plant sterols), are much better than and safer than, synthetic steroids like Betnesol!
Vegetables like cabbage and cauliflower contain signifcant amounts of plant sterols and we eat them routinely without harming ourselves.
Natural treatment is especially effective in conditions like chronic allergic rhinitis, chronic and recurrent tonsillitis, sinusitis, recurring bronchitis, ear infections associated with upper respiratory infections, nasal polyps, etc.
Many herbs have a special affinity for some particular part of the body, where they exhibit a rather organ-specific effect... for example, Pulsatilla for the Nose, Drosera for the larynx, Mullein flowers for the middle ear, Adulsa for bronchial mucosa, Bryonia for all membraneous tissues, Wyethia for the pharynx .....and so on and so forth.
You may obtain these herbal remedies from me, upon request. So you too, could avail of them easily. It just doesn't matter in which country you live, you could still get them from me and benefit from their use!
